replacement of transmission 1966 427/425

I have replaced the transmission in a 66 427/425 with the correct dated one from 4 speeds by Darrell. The transmission looks great, but when we installed it, we replaced the throw out bearing and reassembled it with the bearing on the throw out fork and we now have a clutch pedal that almost goes to the floor with no resistance, and we have not changed the clutch rod adjustment. Any idea what we should look for?

Jerry:

It sounds like ou don't have the fork on the ball stud correctly. You can check it out by removing the rubber boot from the bell housing where the fork enters and wiggle the fork around. While you are there you might also check to see if you have the throw out bearing seated in the clutch fork properly (with the springs inside the collar.)

If you still have the old throwout bearing, take it to the parts counter and compare it with one like you installed and verify that the bearings are the same, this will rule out the wrong height of throwout bearing.

There are two different throw out bearings for this year. Sounds like you might have the short one. The proper one is an inch thicker than the one you often find in kits... but make certain it is on the fork as suggested above.
