In order to gain some steering wheel clearance for my leg to get to the brake pedal, I am considering going to a shorter master cylinder actuating rod (say a 1/4 inch). This should lower the pedal an inch or so, though I haven't done the ratio math as yet. I have thought of cutting the rod, threading both ends and installing a threaded coupling, though I would rather buy one the appropriet length. With the lower pedal height, I still should have suffient pedal to floor travel. Anyone out there tried this or know of a actuating rod that would fit the bill?

Most drivers with this problem install a 15 inch steering wheel and I know of one, that installed a thinner seat bottom. All can be changed back fairly easy for judging etc, without major modification to the car. For yor consideration....- Top

Re: C1 '58 Master cylinder rod
Dennis, I have toyed with the steering wheel option, but the WW P205-78 tires and no power assist make it a bear to park. That 18 inch wheel serves it's purpose. I just upholstered the seats (new correct springs, foam and covers) so tearing the seats back down is not an option. I'd rather take a bullet to the head.- Top
