    C1 Brake Question

When I first apply the brakes on my '62, the pedal is a little low. However, after the first application, it comes up. That is, pumping the pedal makes the pedal come up. After the first application, the pedal is higher for subsequent applications. What's that usually indicative of?

When I rebuilt the system, I replaced everything except the master cylinder. I only threw a rebuild kit on that. Did not hone the bore. The system has DOT5 (silicone) fluid, but I'm sure it's properly bled.

    Chris,

From what you are telling us it indicates that you have air in the system. I would first suggest doing a proper bleeding of the system. If that solves the problem and it does't return you are done. If it doesn't solve the problem or the problem returns then you have to try and find the source of the air getting into the system. You mention that you are using DOT-5 after the rebuilding of the system. If you didn't get the system completely free of conventional brake fluid (assuming that was in it previously) this could be causing some issues with the seals and allowing air into the system.

Mis-adjusted brake shoes, (too far from the drum), can cause this also.
