Does anyone have a GM number for the alternator wire rubber boot on a 1967? Or quality aftermarket? My local dealer is not very helpful.

Re: GM # for C2 Alternator Wire Rubber Boot
Harry, I went to the Ebay site and clicked on the "supersize" picture and I noticed that the boot was SEVERELY cracked and would probably last about 3 days on the car. The local junkyard is a much better and cheaper way to get one of these.

Paul-----
I can't find any information that would indicate that the boot was ever available from GM in SERVICE as a seperate part. It was used in PRODUCTION and was available in SERVICE as part of the complete harness assembly. It's possible that it was, somehow, available through Packard Electric but, if so, it was likely available only in a large package quantity.
Although I don' think they were ever used in PRODUCTION on any C3 Corvette, GM later replaced these boots for PRODUCTION and SERVICE with a plastic, snap-on cap. Consequently, the rubber boots have not been used in PRODUCTION for 20 years, or so. The plastic cap, although obviously incorrect, is still available from GM under GM #497628.
While these boots were used on all GM cars for many years, they are subject to deterioration due to age and engine compartment heat. I'm surprised that there are any out there that are still supple enough to be stretched over the terminal without cracking. While they can be removed from the "donor" vehicle by cutting the wire and avoiding the need to stretch them over the terminal, they still have to be stretched over the terminal for installation (unless, of course, one removes the terminal and installs a new one after installing the boot on the wire). In any event, as I say, I would expect that most used examples of these would be deteriorated and "hardened" to one degree or another.
This wouldn't seem like it would be a very difficult part to reproduce in exactly original configuration. I'm surprised that there are no correct reproductions out there. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Thanks Joe as usual. Your info confirms why my local GM dealer does not know what the heck I am talking about: it is part of a harness. Mine split with little handling but age as you can see in the pic. As I noted earlier I have one coming in from a member. So the point of my thread has been very much satisfied !- Top
