I have a 63 SWC with a Borg Warner 4-speed Trans. The drive shaft, when connected, makes the yoke exposed by 1 1/2" (measured from shoulder to end of trans housing). The yoke shaft length is 3 1/2" from shoulder to end of spline. The spline sticks out of the trans approx. 3/4".
I found out, that the drive shaft is too short (O.A.L. 30.50").I purchased a correct used, driveshaft (O.A.L. 31.25").
Here is my problem:
When installing the new driveshaft, the yoke will not move into the trans far enough to accomodate the longer driveshaft. The yoke bottoms out with 7/8" exposed shaft, and will not allow me to install the drive shaft.
My questions are:
What is the correct length of the shaft on the yoke ? (now 3 1/2", with 3 1/4" spline length).
Could the yoke be too long ?
How much spline engagement should I have ?
How much end play, before bottoming out, should I have on the yoke, installed ?
Should I cut the yoke 1/2" to give me approx 1/4" "to go", and the exposed area on the yoke shaft would be approx 5/8". Spline engagement would be approx. 2 3/4".
