    Repro midyear frame

Is there anyone who has had a personal experience buying a new mid year repro frame from Corvette Specialties of Michigan in Lake Orion,Michigan ?

    Jack,

Yes, I have had several experiences with Neil Porter. His complete frames are the only game in town. You want a complete one--it comes from Neil. Others have partial repair pieces but Neil has the only complete ones on the market.

They are made on the original jigs and are correct in all specifications. There are a few holes that have to be drilled and or tapped for brake lines and fuel lines but no major flaws to worry about.

    Regards,

    JR

Agree with J. R. Only game in town, but a good repro. Everything fits like it should. Cheaper than a major repair.

I've seen many price ranges. If these are the ones to use what price range are you talking about? I need a 64 coupe

        Cheers

Gary and others that might be interested. From their website(www.vetteproducts.net), the cost of a new repro 1964 frame is $4295.00.

Jack, for what it is worth, I rebuilt a '66 frame for a customer several years ago, using their rear sections, by the time I sandblasted, primed, repaired, etc I had more than the $4,295 in a frame that was still used. The customer wanted to keep his "original" frame. By all means if your frame is in real bad shape, from rust or collision damage, I would replace it.

Thanks Dick for your valued opinion. In my case, an extremely rust-damaged frame necessitates the cost of a new repro frame. I want to drive up to Lake Orion and talk with Neil Porter personally and observe his company's operations. I would like to have the frame shipped directly to a nearby powder coater. Anyone have any cost estimates for powder coating a (raw?) new steel frame? Thanks in advance.

Be careful with powder coating. If the actual technician is not exactly clear what you want, you may end up with a frame that looks as if the coating is half an inch thick. I judged one of those recently and it was painfully obvious. I've had parts done on my own car (70 Cutlass) that looked quite good. Make sure they know what you're after.

Patrick, did you use a powder coat shop in MI? If Jack is close enough to drive to Vette Products, why not send him to that shop? Justa thinking

Yes, I used one right here in town.

Jack, if you can't find one on your end of the state that wants to deal with you, then let me know. We have a large on here in Holland that did great work for me. They do a lot of industrial work, so I would suspect they can fit a frame in there.

                      Re: Repro midyear frame

Trash the original frame and go with a "Street Shop" frame out of Alabama. Totally "bolt in" under a midyear with no modification AND you get the comfort, performance and handling of a new car with a completely ajustable "coil-over" adjustable suspension with rack/pinion steering.

Trey Waldon, owner, uses 89-96 C4 components. Much different than ANY other aftermarket frame on the market. Looks a lot like an original frame in configuration, uses "mandrel bent" square tube frame rails AND does not require the goofy offset wheels like ALL the other aftermarket frames on the market. Trey actually "narrows" the C4 Rearend. You can run 17X8 inch wheels with a 4 1/4 backspace. Look great and rides/drives even better!

Probably not what you are looking for on this NCRS site however it is a GREAT alternative for a lot of folks who want to DRIVE there car with modern handling/comfort and stock exterior appearance. Available for 53-82 Vettes.
