America, here we come... (part II)

    Hi all,

We are counting down for our America trip, only two more week (9 days) of work and we will be on our way! We will arive on Friday evening the 20th and will pick up the camper the following day. We might stick in Washington for a day to see all the touristic places... What would be the best strategy for this ? Park the camper outside Washington and take the sub-way ?

After our Washington visit we'll head for the Carlisle area!

First lets pack some bags (not to many since I want to have as much weight left for our way back for all the Corvette bits and pieces), see you all there!!!

    greetings,
    Rob & Simone

    Washington D.C. tourist visit

Rob & Simone, We visited Washington D.C. last year. They have a trolley system that takes you to all of the sites. You just ride one to the area of interest, visit then get on the next trolley. That is what I believe is the best way to get around Washington. I hope you enjoy your visit here and find lots of Corvette parts. Enjoy!! David Nims member 19639.

If you want to see a fantastic sight while your visiting D.C. don't miss the new National Air and Space Museum at Dulles Airport. They have shuttle busses running all day long from D.C. to Dulles for tourists to see the museum. It just opened last December and I went there a couple weeks ago...simply spectacular!!!!

Rob, due to the heightened security, I would not even attempt to take the camper downtown. The MARTA (I believe this is right) or the trolley would make moving around town very simple. They travel to all the sights that you would want to see.

DC subway is great. Clean, efficient, pleasant. Great way to get around. Download maps and info at

            www.metroopensdoors.com

Some of the outlying stations have parking lots. Think it's $3.50/day to park. Believe they're safe, but not sure. Their Internet site listed above will tell you which ones have parking. Some of them do fill up in the morning.

Smithsonian is not to be missed. Air and Space Museum is spectacular. Plenty of US government and historic stuff.

Security is a concern. They won't like large vehicles and large pieces of luggage in enclosed areas. Try to travel light.
