    1957 Window Washer

Does anyone know a source for the rubber cover on the pedal of the window washer pump for a 1957? Your help is appreciated.

    Sir:

55-56-57 foot pumps are the same on some Chevrolet models, most notably the pick-up trucks. Try Golden State Pickup in CA. See Hemmings.

Chevy sold the whole ball of wax over the counter up to the late 60’s –early 70’s. At that time it was packaged as follow:
Foot Pump with mounting hardware and Bowen (?sp) cable and clamps.
56 Washer Bag with Cap and Filter, Upper and Lower Brackets.
Hoses, Brass T fitting and Brass Tie Straps plus instructions.
Nozzles and all other parts needed to totally install Windshield Washers as an accessory in a pick-up. If I recall correctly everything matched a 56 Vette perfectly except for lengths. The 55 bag and 57 jug were not in a kit that I am aware of.

PS At Carlisle in the early 1970’s they could be found in the old Dark Green and Tan GM boxes with Red printing, You could find them for $10-15 and we would mark then up to $15-20 Dollars for the Corvette collectors.

      Geoffrey-----

The last time that I encountered a window washer was in Detroit. I was stopped at a stoplight and an entrepeneurial fellow with a bucket and squegee came up to the car and asked me if I wanted him to wash my wndows. I really didn't need a window washer, so I declined his offer (just before I went through the red light and proceeded on my way). I don't know if this guy was a 1957 model window washer, or not; he looked like he had led a pretty hard life and, consequently, estimating his DOB would be difficult.

Now that I think about it, that guy wasn't you, was he?

        Honest, it wasn't me.

In NY city in Manhattan around bridges, toll and tunnel entrances the wash guys and equal opportunity employment gals were (or may still be) legendary. If you gave them less than a buck some would spit on your windshield. America: land of infinite opportunity.

You know, I may have a booth in Carlisle for hoser’s though.
I hope your friend is better and you can make it again.

          Geoffrey----

That's right! I recall, now. You once told me that you don't do windows. It must have been someone else.

All seems to be well with Jetta. It does worry me a bit, though, just how she reacts to me leaving for 2 weeks. At her age, she's gotten a bit "set in her ways", "crotchety", and "persnickety". So, when I'm away for a long while, she goes into some sort of "panic". That worries me, but I'll likely be in Carlisle.

I've got something else going now, too, though. Sara's mother is in the final stages of life and Sara and her sisters are doing a home-hospice thing at Sara's home. Very, very commendable but a difficult thing to go through, especially since her sisters are rather "far flung" (Seattle, WA; Richmond, VA; Clarksburg, CA; and somewhere in, of all places, Connecticut). So, I've got all sorts of things going around here that I absolutely must be supportive of.

Ah yes, the Connecticut connection. Small world. Perhaps that sister should wise up and emigate from that state as my relatives have.

            Wish Sara our best.

Rubber cover is flat, 1 1/4" x 1 3/8" x 3/8" deep. It has a hollow slot with an opening at the top to fit over the flat metal pedal actuator. There is ribbing around the right, left and bottom, with two ribs down the middle. The back is flat. Thanks

                  If I may suggest sacrilege...

The 67-68 Mustang washer pedal pad has 9 vertical ribs, is 1 3/8" wide, 1" high, and slips onto the end of a metal tab 1" wide. Commonly available from most Mustang suppliers.

                      Patrick,

I thought your relatives were asked to leave CT?
