I would like to say sorry to all of the NCRS members that may not like my views on the NCRS competition. I did infact get good advice from some members and I say Thank You. However, those that judge for NCRS who attack me and my views on the competition can go blow a rod. I stand by my views that the NCRS is NOT Chevrolet. Kick me out if you want, but I will always own my CHEVROLET Corvette.
Sorry

So, other than to complain about
a judging system and an organization you obviously know nothing about, why did you come here? You apparently have nothing short of complete contempt for almost everything said to date. Are you going to now speak from the other side of your mouth and continue to ask for technical advice on your car?
I don't think anyone really gives a flying farque about your views on the judging meets (you erroneously called them 'competitions') however your obnoxious and confrontational approach has certainly lent credence to the rumour that not ALL grumpy old men are already long time members of the NCRS.
Best of luck elsewhere trying to get your questions answered.- Top

Re: Push or connecting ROD Dave
I'm partial to connecting rods myself
I'm not sure what spawned this thread to begin with, but it must have been intense!
Opinions and views are two way streets, and if a hard question is tasked to the members/visitors of this board, then be prepared to see all types of responses both posative AND negative. The information is free do with as we please.
If anyone should be concerned about getting the "heave ho" off this board Dave it should be me for my "out There " questions that patiently get answered time and time again by this board's brain trust.
I think I'll go out to the garage tonight and hug my CHEVROLET tranny
Keep it cool Dude,

TIME OUT!...Dave, Let's Start Over...
If you feel I attacked you, I sincerely apologize.
You made statements that do not represent NCRS judging from my experience, and I attempted to explain why I thought you were wrong. Often, people draw conclusions from limited data, and arrive at perfectly erroneous conclusions. At least we know you're a member now; I don't think anyone gets thrown out for having an attitude.
If you have not attended a regional meet or a national convention, I encourage you to take advantage of the opportunities and get involved. Take a look at those cars; some of them appear absolutely to have rolled off the assembly line the previous week. If that doesn't excite you, then there are other things to do in NCRS, but that's mainly what NCRS is about.
Mike Ward said that NCRS meets are not competitions, and that is true. For most NCRS members the penultimate goal is to restore their car to EXACTLY the way it looked on the first day it was made. If a member has interest in determining how successful he (or his surrogate) has been in that quest, he can submit the car for examination by knowledgeable, experienced members for their objective opinion.
If, after completion of detailed judging sheets, the car meets 92%(?) of the total points alloted for perfection, the car is awarded Top Flight. Commensurately lower percentage of total points result in Second Flight, or Third Flight. The cars are competing against the standard of "New Car", not against each other. There is no fixed number of Top Flights, Second Flights, or Third Flights there may be at any given meet. And, there is no requirement to participate...it's up to you.
It's true we make no effort to be experts on all Chevrolets. That doesn't mean that we don't admire Camaros, Chevelles, Impalas, Chevy Pickups, or even Mustangs, old Fords, Vipers, or Land Cruisers, and sometimes even own or restore some of them, but this organization is about Corvettes...Chevrolet Corvettes.
If you have questions with your 69, post them and we'll be happy to help you. (Personally, if it were mine, I would start with an LT-1 camshaft with a little port polishing, and a fresh three-angle valve job. Some of those nice cast aluminum LT-1 valve covers would be a nice touch, too.)- Top

Re: TIME OUT!...Dave, Let's Start Over...
Thank you for your kind words Chuck. I came to ask some questions and, I admit I used poor judgement in my words. It sounded like I was putting down the NCRS when that was not my intention. I just disagree with some things when they grade the cars which is competition, not just a meet like someone posted earlier. Anyway, ever since then I tried to retract the poor use of words and I have been attacked ever since. I will defend myself, because that was not my intention, but they over look my apology. I have never been to an NCRS event, but I better stick with the hot roders. They are a nicer bunch. Thanks again Chuck. Dave- Top

Re: Sorry
NCRS, to my knowledge, is the most regimented, disciplined, organized, and detail-oriented (i.e.,ANAL), automobile judging system in the universe. To prepare for Flight judging, you have to more than a hundred pages, versus maybe one or two for many other national associations.
It is NOT a competition. Who is competing against who? It is simply an evaluation of comformance to a standard. There is no "First in Class", "Best of Show", or 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place trophies. Do cars get "picked apart"? In a way, yes, but not maliciously.
IF you have been reading this board for any length of time, you have seen that many times people ask opinions of what to do with a car, much as you have. They always get civil answers, as far as I have seen. Sometimes, the answer can be that this isn't the place to get the answer. That should be fair.
If you don't like this whole premise, that's perfectly fine. However, to come in looking to pick a fight is the totally wrong approach. In your initial post, you announced your disdain for the organization, and even answered your own question, so your tack was pretty obvious. Bottom line, I think you're way out of line (but I must admit it livens things up).- Top

Re: Sorry
To judge by definition is to decide in any competition or contest. Whether they compete against one another or by a standard is irrelevant, it is still a competition. If you don't believe me, look it up. I don't agree with that and you keep trying to change the definition.- Top

Thanks to ALL the Regulars!
I want to thank all of the regular visitors of this site in their civil treatment of David. You are top class bunch of guys. Enough has been covered in this thread though.
Let's start over with threads that contain questions, with no editorial comments. Technical Questions are what we are about.
