    Frame Stencil

Now that my frame is back from the shop and painted semi-flat black (gorgeous, I might add... ), I want to put the correct stencil markings on it.

I have the information from Tripoli's Chassis Restoration Guide, but am curious about the 3/4" stencil. Is there anything special that would require me to order the stencil from the catalogs? Or will the run-of-the-mill hardware store stencil suffice?

    Re: Frame Stencil

While it is possible to make your own stencil, Quanta has a kit that with all the correct stencils for your car including the ink. I would seriously look into this

      Re: Frame Stencil

Mark, I agree with Dick...If you're going to do this, you might as well get a stencil that is acceptable to any judge. It'll cost you a few bucks. Since no one will probably ever see the stencil again, it could be argued that it's ridiculous to be this anal...but, if you going to make that argument, it begs the question "Why even bother with it?"

        FYI....

our friend, the good Doctor, lists frame stencil ONLY offerings in his Dr. Rebuild catalog for a few dollars vs. spending $100 or so for a full Quanta frame detail kit. Now, the Quanta kit contains a LOT more than just a frame stencil (various paints to duplicate the myraid inspection marks as well as a nice booklet with 'how to' instructions).

But, if one's already invested in a chassis restoration book for baby's library, then a lot of what's in the Quanta 'how to' phamphlet is already known. Plus, I've yet to see a chassis judge 'ding' a car for slightly off-hue inspector's mark ink or pull out his/her 'Font Reference Manual' to eyeball under a microscope whether the '2' digit in a given frame stencil has a bent, broken, or gently curved knee to it in the same fashion stamp pad judges go hog wild with their examinations....
