License Plate Bezel & License Plate Attach Screws

The 1963/64 judging manual gives no reference to what type of screws are used to attach the lower portion ofr the license plate bezel to the valance panel. It references two slotted screws with itegral wahsers to attach at it the top portion of the bezel but there is no mention of the type of screw used at the bottom. The assembly manual shows that there were screws at the bottom per the diagram.

Also the there is no mention in the 63/64 judging manual as to the type of screws used to attach the rear license plate to the car. Anyone know what the correct screws are OR since the cars came from the factory with no licence plates, just the stainless steel frames is this item not judged since there is no mention of them in the judging manual? It's odd since the type of license plate attacment screws are described for the front license plate.

    Thanks,

    James,

The screws that were installed in the lower ends of the license plate bezel would have been a self tapping phillips with a fillister head. I believe the same screw would have been used in the upper locations also.

The license plate attaching screws and nylon nuts would have been shipped with the car in a small bag in the I.P. compartment. There were four of each, enough for front and rear plates. The screw, part number 3794162, was a strange looking assy that had a slotted pan head with an attached, but loose, flat washer. I have some here and can scan/post if you want to see what they look like. I ordered 25 of these in about 1975 and they were discontinued by 1976. They seem to be unique to 63-65 Corvette and I don't think they were ever used on any other GM cars.

The nylon nuts were common and available from GM for many years. They may still be available. I only remember the last few digits of the part number, 004, but I'll look up the number and check availability.

Every car that is judged should have the license plate attaching hardware in the bag and in the I.P. compartment.

    Michael

James - As Michael indicted, the hose straps are a white or neutral color for 64s (63-64). 65-67 used black colored hose straps. Pete

Then once again the 63/64 judging manual is incorrect.

        Thanks for the reply,

          Michael,

I have the slotted pan head screws with the attached but loose washer and the phillips head, not sure about the head style. Please scan and post a picture of the ones that you have so that I can verify that I have the correct ones. I would appreciate it greatly.

          Thanks,

James, these are NOS and I know they are dead on accurate for 63-65.
