I just replaced the power steering pump, conrol valve, and slave cylinder with units remanufactured by a well known source. The hoses are new. The tie rods, and idler arm are new moog units. After centering the control valve, bleeding the system, and setting the belt tension the car drives fine. The problem arrives when the car is at a complete stop. If you turn the steering wheel back and forth, the front of the car shakes. The engine rpm makes no difference. If the front tires are off the ground, no shake. Only when there is resistance on the tire to ground surface. Any suggestions? Thanks, Lawrence Berte

Re: Power Steering Question On An 81'
Lawrence,
I think your shaking may be caused by the pump going under load and then the relief valve opening to relieve pressure build up in the pump. Keep in mind that corvette power steering is only power assist, that's why your car is fine when driving but labors when you try to turn the wheels while stopped in the driveway. Recheck your fluid now that you have drove the car and add if needed. If there are no leaks I doubt there is any problem.
PS, If the problem continues, drink six beers and all shaking will go away!
