One of them has a rubber bumper in it to hold the top when the top is down. Lyle

      Lyle and Dick-----

Yes, but there are TWO of them on, at least, earlier C3s as Dick has found. They may have gone to only one in the 72-75 period, though.

They have two brackets in 72-75 period but as a rule only one had the bumper.

          Seems to me....

the change over was sometime in 1971. My car's an April build and the underside of the deck lid is untouched. There's only one soft top bumper assy and it's on the LH side.

On the RH side where the second bumper support would mount there is nothing and there's undisturbed factory original paint in the area the support ears would contact the underside deck lid fiberglass as well as up and/into the support's bolt insert threads....

Doesn't make much sense for the factory to execute a cost reduction (go from two soft top bumpers to one) and not eliminate the deleted bumper's support and mounting bolts....

            Re: Seems to me....

thanks, guys. now i can see how it would hold the top from bouncing up/dn. my car is a 59k mile barn car. sat in texas for 23 years. i dont see any rub marks on the convert top bow so the rubber bumper must have fallen off years ago.
            thanks, dick
ps corvetes are a lot harder to disasemble than camaros or chevelles!! especially one that is all original. those bolts are really stuck after 35 years!
