I bought the 8" balancer (PN 3817173). I compared it to the 61/2" balancer and noticed that the timing mark on the perimeter is in a slightly different position. Using a vertical line through the keyway as a reference point, on the small balancer the mark is at approx. 1 degree. On the 8" it is at approx. 3 degrees. (rough estimates). I thought the keyway was zeroed at TDC, meaning the balancer mark would have to be at 40+ to match up with the tab on the timing cover. I've obviously missed something in my recent education. Would someone please straighten me out?
Remember that each balancer has a corresponding timing cover/timing tab assembly, so just because the balancers have the timing mark at at a different clock position means nothing unless you check both against their respective cover/tab assemblies.
