    c3 DOOR QUESTION - revisited

Thanks for all of your answers to my earlier question. It sounds like the 73 and later doors have some sort of extra reinforcement inside them (is that correct?)-- Are they safer than the earlier doors, and is there any difference in external appearance between 69 and 73-76 doors??

    thanks again,
    Brandon

I don't think that little piece of sheet metal will save your butt if hit in the side and their is no difference in the outside. Lyle

If judging is on your agenda, be aware that little piece of metal is generally detectable with the door open.

Terry Would that be because the repo door panels fit so bad. Ops now some vendor will want to know whos panels and what years. Lyle

I don't know about repro door panels - My observation of the tell tale signs of the crash bar are from observing original examples. I do on occasion look at a C3 newer than 1972.

Terry Are you seeing spot welds or looking thru a gap to see the rail. Lyle

              Lyle,
I see a bulge in the edge of the door panel, looking at the back end of the door. As if one were looking at the certification label -- look at where the door panel bonds to the back of the door and you will see a bulge where the crash bar, door panel, and rear edge of the door all come together. Next time we are at the same meet, I'll show you. It's one of those things that once you see it, you will always notice it -- but it can easily be overlooked. Carlisle, maybe?

Thanks Terry, and everyone else. I'm building this one to drive. I'd also like it to be correct looking, but it sounds like the differences are very minor.
