What is body build date. Dec 68 is accepted introduction. Absence of cutouts for rear exhaust, lack of muffler brackets, lack of pipe support on rear transmission mount, cutouts for pipes in end of rocker panels, etc. Just a few things to look for

Dick is right, the NCRS Judging Guide shows Dec '68 with serial number 9320 as the earliest - which happens to be my car The build date on my car is actually 20 Nov '68. The judging manual has some good checks to make and as Dick pointed out, one of the biggest is the fact that the quarter panels differ in a '69 for side exhaust vs. rear unlike a mid year. Another hard one to "fake" without removing the body from the frame is the insulation between the frame and body side rail.

              Re: Rbuild date

Open the driver's door. Look at the hinge pillar, above the top hinge is a plate riveted to the body. Following the word Chevrolet is a letter and two numbers. A= August, B=September, C=October and so on. D21= November 21, 1968. F16= January 16, 1969. Production of 1969 model Corvettes continued until December 1969, so Q18=December 18, 1969.
Curtis this is just the beginning for dates. Buy the 1968-1969 Technical Information Manual & Judging Guide (TIM&JG) from the NCRS store. Click on the buttons at the top of the page. Best $30 you will ever spend. It has all (well almost all) the numbers and dates on the car, what they mean, and where to find them.

                    Dick,
For body build dates MOST, but not all, model year production began in August. 1970 MY began in January, so you are right on for that. In later C3s some production began in September, and I think , some other months. One almost has to look up each model year, unless one is very familiar with production for that year. Just one of the many reasons most of us specialize in only a relatively small band of years.
