I am looking for the block casting date on a 1962 340hp engine. All numbers match so far, but I still need to get to the block casting date. The crankcase tube is blocking my vision. I noticed on my 65 350hp that the tube is on the left side over the block casting number. It is normal for the tube to be on the right (passenger) side of the carb on a 62. Is this hard to remove in order to see the date? Is there a better way to see the date than removing the tube?

Re: Block casting date for 1962 340hp
The block casting date for a 62 327 3782870 engine is on the rear passengers side of the block. It may be covered by the sheilding. It would start with a letter for the month then the day and the year. There is also a date on the front passengers side. If it is a Corvette engine the stamping should start with an F for Flint then the four digits for the month and year then a portion of the original cars serial number.- Top

Re: Block casting date for 1962 340hp
It should be on passenger side.
I think it would be OK to pull the tube off while in car but not easy.
Need to remove top bolt that goes thru tube under distributor. It looks like you might need to pull the distributor up to make clearance for tube to come out. Also need to remove bolt holding lower tube bracket on at starter. This bolt is difficult to get at even with the engine sitting on the floor.
Take a look at the below link for photos on a stand.
