    I think you are correct on the years , but you had to remove the key in the off position. If you removed it in the lock position it would not turn without the key.

      I know for fact they operated this way at least through 62, and I THINK the 63/64 also operated in this fashion. Pretty sure the 65 requires the key.

        It wasn't just Corvettes. I believe all Chevys from the early 60's and back were built in this manner. With the ignition in the lock position it won't turn without the key. In any other position the ignition will turn the car on or off and the key can be removed while the car is running.

          Ed,

          Yes, 63-4 operated with the "lock" position. 1965 and after did not.

            For sure '63 has the "feature", but I can't remember the last year.
