On my 67 coup my rear inside view mirror at 60mph and over vibrates so much that I cant see or make out cars behind me . The main support is tight as is the mirror screw holding it to the support. I can stop the vibration using two fingers . holding the frame area. What can I do to stop the vibration ( Yes the Corvette is tight and tires run smooth.)

Re: 67 coup inside mirror vibrates
These mirrors originally had a 'collar' inserted in the hole used to mount the mirror to the windshield surround bracket, Roy. The 'collar' along with the shouldered fastening screw controlled the max tension that could be applied to the mirror/bracket interface.
If the collar is missing, you can over-torque the mirror to its bracket and you'll see EXACTLY the symptoms you report. The collar is a simple piece of sheet metal formed into a rectangle that slips into the hole in the mirror's swivel arm.
A few catalogs offer replacements, but the easiest way to obtain one is to go to your local scrap yard and pull the mirror from any equivalent GM pass car of the era, use a screwdriver to extract the tensioning collar and install it in your mirror....- Top

Re: 67 coup inside mirror vibrates
Jack is talking about the small bushing that is inside the hole in the bracket that holds the mirror. If you remove the screw that attaches the mirror to the bracket and pull the two apart, you should see a small piece of metal in the screw hole of the small part sticking out of the mirror. It was made out of hardened spring steel, and originally of a square shape. It is designed to fit tightly around the collar of the screw and provide uniform tension for mirror positioning. I believe Long Island shows the bushing in their catalog. Warning, don't over-tighten the screw in an attempt to increase mirror tension - you will just strip the threads in both the bracket and on the screw. Been there - done that...:-(- Top
