    LT-1 Reference Source

    All,

Does anyone know of a reference source which can tell me what Corvettes came with what options? In other words, is there a source I can go into with a VIN and find out if it was originally made as an LT-1 and with what options?

    Thanks,
    Mark

    Nope!

Production records for Corvettes made before the assy plant moved to Bowling Green, do NOT exist. You're on your own, amigo! It's an artform trying to decipher how a given early Corvette left the factory loaded with forensic analysis and lots of educated guesses....

        Mark:

Only the '72 model year has a alpha character in the vin sequence that indicates which engine the car was assembled with. L is for 350/255 LT-1. The '70 & '71 model year vin #'s do not indicate any such engine differentiation.

As far as factory source information, the Dealer Sales Album gives the powerteam choices for the given options selected. It also indicates other equipment used with various engines, such as Heavy duty cooling, Heavy duty suspension, etc. ie: 1970 would be ZQ3, L46, LT-1, LS-5. 1971 would be ZQ3, LT-1, LS-5, LS-6. 1972 would be ZQ3, LT-1, LS-5.

These albums are approximately 11 inches tall by 14 inches wide and about 2 inches thick. They are full line, with a dedicated section for Corvettes. They show exterior paint samples, interior vinyl samples, hardtop vinyl samples, etc. Each dealer in the U.S. at that time, would receive one. If the dealership was on the ball, these albums should include all the updated and revisions made during the model year for each specific car line.

As an example, the '71 album, I have is from Broadway Chevrolet in Louisville, KY. There are some pages added at the beginning of the album indicating some changes for the Corvette during the model year, these are dated January 1971.
