The past couple times I've had my '60 270hp out for a drive, the throttle has been sticking open a little bit after I let my foot off the gas pedal. I haven't been flooring it wide open, just a part throttle cruise so that when I let off the engine stays revved up at about 2000-2500 rpm. It will come down on it's own after 3-4 seconds usually, sometimes longer. Not sure if the problem is in the linkage or the carburetors. Everything is in original configuration, no modifications.
Check to see if your return spring is catching on any of the linkage or the carburetor.Try also spraying carb cleaner on the linkage and on the butterfly shaft in the carb.
Mike,
Check the little plastic rectangle on the backside of the accelerator pedal ( little inspection mirror works). Years of use will rub a groove in it, sometimes they are missing. If grooved, reverse it 180°, if missing replace it. Regards,
