I can buy an 1985 corvette from the original owner with the 4+3 manual transmission at a very attractive price. The car is very nice and there are no mechinical issues. My question is the 4+3 trans. Are they problematic,is this trans an asset or a liability in this car. Thanks.

Re: 1985 4+3 trans
If I could choose, my 85 would have the 4+3. If the OD unit has been serviced it it still works go for it, original owner 85 is probably better than most others. If you buy it, buy a service manual and service the OD unit, it is just a filter and fluid change.- Top

Louis:
I normally prefer manual transmissions in sports cars/sports sedans, but that Doug Nash has a horrible reputation. In addition to what Joe said, the beast has a terrible penchant for "hunting", or bouncing around trying to find the right gear. This can probably be corrected/modified if you want to, but the stock setup will probably behave this way. It is very annoying, just want you to be aware.
My '85 has the 700R4, which has been very strong, and a blast to drive. The L98 works very well with the A/T because it is a torque monster. If the car in question is very nice, and the price is right, then go for it, otherwise wait for a clean car with A/T.
