    65-67 BB oil line plating

Need more input on the 65-67 big block oil pressure guage line. Was this steel line copper plated like small block or was the big block line unique and installed unplated? What does the judging guide say about this?

The believe the line in my 66 is the original and it's natural unplated steel. I've heard from a few people with original unrestored cars and their lines are also unplated. I've always felt unplated was correct.

Re: 65-67 BB oil line plating

I got dinged 1 point on my 66 for having an unplated oil pressure line. The judge said it was supposed to be copper plated. He even went on to inform me that Paragon was changing their process - finally - to go with copper plated. I never followed up with it. The JM said plain steel however he did not want to hear it. I would laos like to know once and for all which is correct.

        Mike and others,

-------Mike, I think you paid too much attention to the feulers in the shop back at Classic. All big block original cars I have ever seen have been non-copper-plated. Thats not to say they dont have something on them, because if they were unprotected steel Id think I would have noticed more corrosion (rust) on them. The question is "why the difference in materials between small and big block vehicles?" As usual the General works in strange ways!.........Bill S

          Bill,

Yep, that's exactly what I was trying to say in my original post. I've never seen a copper plated line in any 65-67 BB that I felt was original or correct. Big block, steel... small block, copper plated.

It is strange that they were different but, as you say, GM and the individual parts vendors that supplied parts to GM did do some strange things. Part of the problem is the fact that many times, the vendor had a choice of options on the original print and these included any plating. Could have specified galvanized or copper plate etc. I think most everyone agrees that they were steel with no copper plate but there are still some that won't accept this. Just trying to help clear this up.
