I have a rock crusher transmission and I think there is a special u-joint to use. The one installed has two special retaining rings on the bushings which go through the yoke. Is it correct that this is a special u-joint and where can I get one?

The driveshaft yoke for Muncie M-22's (aka "Rock Crusher") were, for any given model year, exactly the same as all other Muncie variants. There were TWO different ones used. For 1966-70 Muncies, identified by an extension housing with casting number 3857584, the driveshaft yoke required is GM #3868728.
For 1971-74 Muncies, identified by extension housing casting number 3978764, the driveshaft yoke is GM #3930827. That's the "whole deal". These were the only driveshaft yokes used for ALL Muncies during the 1966-74 period. However, these are Corvette-only pieces and they were not used for other Chevrolet models.
BOTH of the above-referenced parts are discontinued. I understand that the 3868728 may be or may soon be available in reproduction. I have not heard anything regarding the 3930827.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
