Finally have the '58 on the road, thanks to alot of help from the good guys and gals on this web page. The problem: rides like a brick. Have new front springs from Corvette Central, re-arched original rear springs, full tank of gas and spare inplace. Body height is in spec's. I suspect the shocks. Rearend seems the worst. I have new Corvette Central shocks as specified for '53 -'58 replacement(non-spiral). I'm tempted to remove the rear shocks to test the ride. Anybody run up against this before?

Re: C1 1958
Terry,
You didn't mention what tires you are running. If you are running bias ply tires, you are probably experiencing normal ride. The car is build on a 1948 passenger chassis, not exactly the tip of the tech curve even for 1958. I have a 1962, and it is much the same. I switched to radial tires and it improved the ride considerably. Still like a truck, but a 1975 truck.Administrator

Re: C1 1958
I am running Coker WW 205-15 radials at 28 PSI hot (I don't want to go any lower on the PSI). My 100"wb/2300lbs hot rod seemed to ride better, though it did have IFS and coil overs/solid axle rear. It could be I'm just getting old. Speaking of that, where do I sign-up to get the Prom Queens to ride on my dech lid?- Top
