    Parades and decklids

This may sound like a stupid question, but is there any consequence to using a C-1 for parades and having someone (or two) sit on the decklid? I know how to pad it properly, but I'm wondering if the weight bothers it. Has anyone had experience here with this? Thanks.

I think we all have hauled a home coming queen around at some time or another. I have never had any problems. But then they dont weigh much at that age.

Don't do it. The car has 2 seats for a reason.

The fillies I hauled, when placed on a white silk pillow, looked regal and caused no problem at all.

From the responses, it sounds like the "little" gals should go on the decklid and the football player in the front seat! Thanks for the replies!

In 2000, as the Class of '50 in our fiftieth anniversary reunion, led the homecoming parade. That little filly on the deck lid was 68 and rhe reunion organizer. I'm driving, slow, cuz a lot of 68-year-old guys and gals are marching in the parade just behind us. The DIC was sending all kinds of nasty messages by the time the two miles were up. Four-waays were flashing, too.

                            It was really embarassing!

                            Bill,

                            Yes it is!

But the parade was uphill at a grade of 6% for the last half mile, and I had had a brand new clutch put in the week before. By the time we got to the reviewing stand (and after I almost dumped my candidate out the back three times), the clutch was smoking so bad that the radio and tv announcer had to announce a problem with the Corvette. I had to pull out of the parade at the top of the hill into the City Hall parking garage.

Not only embarrassing, the candidate who eventually won her seat on the Board of Supervisors never talked to me again!

A 4 speed with a 3.08 rearend is not intended to go slow. If anyone uses one in a parade, don't ride the clutch, and make sure you have plenty of clutch freeplay. An automatic would be much better for an uphill parade.

The parade was about 10 years ago and I'm riding on the same clutch. Although I have plenty of freeplay now, I have a lot less political clout!

And now, they are running the yearly parade in the downhill direction!

PS: I hope you noticed the horseplop in front of the car. The parade is called the Motherlode Roundup, and I followed the Sheriff's Posse.

I'm surprised to hear she won. Almost everyone along the sidelines isn't even looking at her, they are all checking out whatever was following you.
