    1964 Vin tag

How was the '64 VIN tag installed? When I checked mine I see two areas where the metal bar it's mounted to was hit with a grinder and the tag is spot welded in place. The trim tag is attached with POP rivets. The engine pad is correct to the VIN but the grinder marks make me wonder.

63s and 64s had the VIN tag spot welded and the trim tag attached by pop rivets, just like you've found them. The grinder marks are common, if not ubiquitous on the spot welded VIN installations. The worker that affixed the VIN tag used a grinder to clean the bar so that the spot weld would hold properly.

Thanks, At least he was neat and ground the paint off in two uniform sections on the bar. I'm a little surpised that this bare metal is still so clean and never rusted after 40 years.
