    numbers

can someone tell me what numbers i would need to look for or ask,if i wanted to start looking for the original motor that came out of my 63 vette, here are some numbers that might help(vin:30867s108061)i know the block should be a 3782870 with a cast date of somewhere in the first week of jan,i think.my intake cast date is jan 11-63,i am almost sure this is an original,my body date is the first week of february of 63,i know the heads should be a 3795896,not sure about the date it should be,i know the block should have the last six numbers on the block,i just don't know what the other numbers should be,i would be happy if i found a motor with dates that were even close, the poosibility of me finding the original is almost impossible.

    Re: numbers

Phil, I would get a block that is stamped about 10 days before the body build, or the last week in Jan.

      Re: numbers

i'm looking at my book " chevrolet by the numbers " and it has a list in order of how the block would have gone down the assembly line and my intake date would show that the intake would have been installed after the block had started down the line ,so wouldn't the block have a casting date of "a?3 or 2 and a date stamped on the block of "f010???",if my intake reads jan11-63

        Re: numbers

        Phil, try www.mortec.com

The web sight will show where to look on all Small and Big block Chevy blocks/heads for ID numbers etc. Also will supply you with the numbers and type engines they came with.

As for the stamp numbers and suffix(on the pad) it will show you where to look. Be sure to write down all the information or numbers you see and if Mortec doesn't show it repost and I'm sure you'll get an answer.

        Good luck,gr#33570
