I finally have my 62 running well enough to consider reinstalling the shielding. A couple of questions: 1) I know the top fastner on the top shield is supposed to be a hex head bolt rather than the wingbolt. What about the other two upper shield fastners? hex head or wing? 2) On a fuel injection car, none of the catalogs mention a right hand bracket for FI models. Only part shown is the one for carb cars that incorporates the coil holder. I took one of these and removed the ring for the coil, which I'm sure is incorrect. What is supposed to be there?

Re: 62 ignition shielding
The retaining CAP SCREW (that's a "bolt" without a nut) is an "untrimmed", (dished head) hex head 1/4 x 20 about 5/8ths long. It's ZINC plated and sports an "E" in the center of the head. (not offset to the right) There is NO dot to the right of the E as with mid-years. Three are used on the top ignition shielding for 1962.
Note that the AIM calls for a split ring lock washer under the shielding cap screws. Those horizontal wing-head cap screws are very difficult to re-install using lock washers and as a result the washers were usually scrapped upon the first plug change.
The passenger side plug wire bracket on a fuel car is the compliment of the driver's side bracket. They look identical. Just a matter of the tab that goes into the guide hole.

Re: 62 ignition shielding
No joy on the bolts. However, Chicago Corvette has a listing in their catalog for their # A5426 57-62 BRACKET top ignition shield,RH, w/FI...... 17.20. Now, this catalog is a couple of years old, so??????. I have looked at a couple of more popular vendor's catalogs and did not find this piece or any mention of its existance.- Top

Thanks
And for the CAP SCREWS, damnit, CAP SCREWS, Cap Screws, NOT BOLTS, buy the mid year cap screw and use a dremmel tool to remove the dot next to the "E". You'll probably have to replate them with Eastwood's home zinc kit but it'll be worth it. I'm glad to see that Al from Chicago Corvette Supply is providing us with the correct bracket!

Re: Thanks
Dale, I'm actually fairly conversant in the correct terminology of fastners. I have been seriously considering the purchase of an industrial fastner distribution company in the past few weeks. Decided it looked too much like work! Trouble is, if ya get too technical no one will know what the h**l you're talkin' about!- Top

Re: Thanks
You've got a VERY VALID point Ed. The art of communication depends on using words that others can understand. A most difficult challenge is writing about something mechanical in a clear and efficient way.
My experience is that when communicating with fastener guys in Memphis, I can make my needs known quickly by using industry standard terminology. I know that it's an effort for us all to learn this terminology BUT we're the best when it comes to Corvettes aren't we? We should "do it right"!
When you get old and burnt-out like me and have spent 20 years with pet peeves you'll be short as well!
Happy cap screws,
