    T-10 trans

I have a 62 build date of Feb.14th. What case dates should I have. Should it have bowties or not.If a gear has some pitting on it is it ok or should it be replaced? Thanks!

    Re: T-10 trans

    Mike,

The casting date is usually four to six weeks prior to car assembly, but eight to ten would probably be ok. Yes it would have a bowtie, and if any gears have pitting replace them.

    Best regards from Connecticut...........Mark

        Re: still puzzled

Firt off thanks a million (Mark and Dale) for taking the time to even respond to my questions. But (here it comes) I had read some of the archives and found info that had said trans before Jan did not have bowtie castings and a trans after Jan did have the bowtie. So when is the cutoff for these castings? Since my cutoff fall right in the middle does it matter which case type I use or is there enough info to pin point this cutoff?? This would be for judging IF I ever do go thru judging. Thanks!

          There Is No Abrupt Cut-Off

Nobody knows anything about inventory control of parts and pieces. If I were looking at a March Corvette without a bow-Tie and everything else was OK, I'd judge it original. Same goes for a December 1962 model with a bow-tie. Anything goes on January 1962. When we define absolutes in judging we begin to distort history.

Who among us is skinny enough to wiggle under a 1962 Corvette to judge the transmission casting dates, assembly & vin codes, and bow-tie presence. If a judge were so successful, the interior team would probably start their work at the same time (by Murphy's law) thereby crushing the mechanical judge underneath. That very thing happened when the late Brent Furgeson was attempting to examine a fuel pump and a very heavy set mechanical judge leaned on the right front fender!
