Re: C4 Electronic Gizmos and No Start

Thanks Patrick. I cleaned the pellet with contact cleaner and also very carefully cleaned the contacts inside the switch but there was no change. I can't see the contacts inside the switch but I have to assume that they're clean because I drive this car every day (used too anyway) so there should be no corrosion from non use. Further testing is definitely pointing toward the ignition switch itself so this AM's project will be to temporarily install a new auto parts bypass system. It sounds like a very simple installation. If that corrects the problem, I will eventually replace the lock and key unit with correct GM parts.

Re: Hate to admit this but..........

Michael I have not done it yet, but I have read where you can send your amps for your 89 back to Bose and they will repair or replace them for a reasonable fee. The ones in the front are a little work to remove from the door, speakers are easy, but the amp takes some time and patience.

Thanks Jim, I've heard that also but I haven't tried to contact Bose for information on it yet. I see new aftermarket amplifiers on ebay but I'd rather send these back to Bose.

Looks like the door window regulator has to come out in order to remove the speaker/amplifier but that would be a good afternoon project for me.

Michael I did not remove the window regulator to remove the amp box. Once you remove the door panel you will see a big aluminum piece of metal retained to the door frame. This is what has to be disconnected the get the amp box out of the door. It has been several years since I have done the job. My left front one is not playing now, so one day I will have to check it out.

Thanks Jim, that's good to know. Someone told me that I had to remove the reg and glass but I don't really think he knew what he was talking about. That will probably be a project for this weekend. Can't wait to hear the Bose system working again.

I found the problem with the "no start" and the fix (patch) was very simple. I'll post some info on it later tonight or tomorrow. It's something everyone with an 85 or newer should know because sooner or later, it will happen to these cars and things like this never happen when or where it's convenient. Thanks again
