Mike, you can start by posting the build date for your car, the two engine stamps on the pad in front of the passenger side valve cover, casting dates for the engine block and as many engine components as you can find, and the type of transmission (so we can tell you where to look for the numbers)...or, even better, the numbers stamped on the transmission if you can find them.

I'm not positive on a 76, but on earlier C3s, there was a stainless steel plate riveted to the hinge pillar for the driver side door just below the windshield. On the top outside corner, there was a letter and two digits stamped indicating month and date of body build completion.

On the engine block, the casting date should be on the top of the adapter flange to the bell housing.

          Mike -

The engine plant code stamp (which includes the engine build date) and a separate stamp which is a derivative of your car's VIN are both found on the machined surface of the block below the front of the passenger side cylinder head, just above the water pump leg. The block casting number is at the rear of the driver's side of the engine, cast into the area behind the cylinder head where the bellhousing attaches; the block casting date code is on the opposite side in the same area. Post them and we can decode it for you.

The Best thing is to start with the NCRS 1975-1977 Corvette Technical Manual & Judging Guide it will answer almost all your questions and some you didn't even know existed.

Mike, are you sure this IS a Corvette? The trim (52) and paint (3L) codes don't fit for a 76 Corvette according to NCRS Spec book. Assuming you misread a "one" as a slash, i.e. B19, the body build date should be September 19, 1975.

well,it looks like a corvette. If i misread the B19,what would it be if the others were 152 and 13L?Thats what i saw on this small plate on the drivers door jamb, under the windshield pillar

                          Mike,

152 correspondes to Smoked Grey leather. 13 correspondes to Silver. I don't know what the "L" means. There were 6,934 Silver cars manufactured in 76. Also, I'm not sure if anyone mentioned it earlier, but the fifth digit in your VIN indicates the original engine. "L" is a 350/180hp. "X" is the 350/210hp.

                          Hope this helps.

                              Nah...

                              Corvettes have chrome bumpers. (Ba-dat-bam!)

Only kidding you, Mike...nice looking ride. Certainly appears to be paint code 13, Silver Metallic. Also has trim code 152 smoke gray leather interior, I presume?
