swapping out intakes on a 350

i have a 350 in my 76 that has an Edelbrock RPM Performer intake and an Edelbrock manual choke carb (600 i think).Im wanting to get just a regular Edelbrock aluminum intake with an elec choke 600 Edelbrock like i had on my chevy pickup. It worked perfectly right out of the box, whereas it seems like somebody has monkeyed with the air/fuel or something on this one i have.

My question is,when you take the intake off....it doesnt really matter where the rotor is on the dist as long as you put it back where it was right?Meaning you dont have to make sure its at TDC or anything. If its at 11 o clock, you put the dist back in at 11.Am i right on this or not?

    Mike -

Correct - before you pull it, mark the top edge of the distributor housing with a piece of tape to show the rotor location, and put another piece of tape on the passenger side valve cover to indicate where a line from the vacuum advance nipple extends to, then pull it, and re-install with the rotor and vacuum advance nipples aligned with their tape marks and you'll be in the ball park.

      to make it easy

bump the engine over till the rotor tip points directly to 12:00 o clock position and it is much easier to tell if the roror is at exactly 12:00 o clock than say 11:00 o clock when you reinstall the distibutor. JMHO after removing and installing lots of distributors. i always do it this way now

You never know on eBay. However, be prepared to have them go low or set a reserve price. Most small block non-Chevy manifolds seem to be running over $100.

Just doa search on eBay and check completed items to see.
