    C3 carpet cleaning

Hello all! The plastic oil line to the oil pressure guage on my '69 failed and oil got all over the carpet on the driver's side. Now I need to find a way short of removing the carpet and bringing it to a carpet cleaner to clean the carpet and get oil out of it. I need all the help I can get! Any suggestions?
    Thanks to all.

Try a product called "Oil Eater".

I've used it for a while, it's usually sold at "Costco", at least that's the big club selling place in my area.

It's better than "Simple Green" in my opinion for oil based cleaning.

I also use it to clean oil stains on my garage floors.

    Regards,

    Rich

Some carpet cleaning machines such as a Rug Doctor, Bissell, etc, have a hand held 'furniture' attachment that would seem like it might work well for cleaning the carpet in a car. If it is a lot of oil, removal/replacement may be the only way to really clean things up. Good luck.

If the oil soaked into the jute padding/foam under the carpet it will be tough to get out. You will probably have an oil smell no matter what you do, except to remove the sill plates and pull the carpet up and carefully remove the padding so you don't "pull" the loop out of the carpet, and replace it with new padding.

Use palmolive liquid dishwashing soap to get the oil out. Start with straight soap and rub. Add water as soon as oil is liquified and vacuum out with a shop vac. Keep flooding with water, and vacuuming until oil and soap are gone. Used this process to remove about 1/4 cup of oil stain (the woodworking kind) from an indoor/outdoor carpet. Don't scrub any more than is necessary to not destroy the carpet pile. Good luck.

            Richard, Roger, Mike, and Bob:
Thanks for your helpful responses. I will try using the diswashing liquid method first. I don't think that there was an enormous amount of oil in the carpet since the line didn't break it just leaked, and I don't smell oil at all.
I'm hopeful that this will get most if not all of it out as the carpet was only put in last year. Thanks again to all!
