'66 build date problems

Hi guys,

Tell me i'm reading this wrong... I hope this isn't extremely obvious... I have a '66 coupe "former" big block car. It has an A.O. Smith indicator (A-4215 body)and a "body time built" code of:

J12 - That's may 12th of '66, right?

But, my serial # 194376S(122622) would put the final assembly date at mid-April of '66... before the body!

Is that a "cart before the horse" thing or was the body built almost a year prior on May 12th '65?

Seems like a long time to sit before being put on a chassis.

The 1966 (model year) body assy at the A. O. Smith facility started production in August so their "J" built body would be April. The St Louis plant started production in September, so their "J" code would be May. I think your time build would be accurate.

Correction..

I incorrectly stated that the "J" code for A.O. Smith would be April but it should instead have said May. The final serial # for May was 23,016 so your 66 coupe fits in the time build correctly.
