Radiator Seals 61 C-1

Corvette Centrals catolog. 2 options on radiator seals 2pc or 3pc and one is for the High Hp ? I have a 61 270HP Dual 4bbl. Which should I use and is correct for the car? Thanks Bill

Bill, I believe your car would have used the 3 piece set. 1 lower piece at the bottom of the rad, and 2 small lower corner pieces. Your car would not use the 2 additional side seals held in place with Robbins clips.

If cooling is of more concern than correctness, the side seals were added for a reason. In my experience they make a considerable difference in cooling efficiency.

I will try correct first then if cooling is a problem I will invest in the side seals. Thank you for your answers. Bill

Your response sounds reasonable. Keep in mind that the HP usage of the side seals required factory hand drilling of the holes in the radiator support in order to install the additional seals. Should you decide to install them in hopes of improving cooling, I would suggest you give some thought to not drilling the 3 per side holes. Maybe just glue them in place and see what happens. Probably no need to screw up the originality of your rad support for this excercise. Best, Dennis
