C1- Spare Tire

My '59 is equipped with whitewall tires. I know the NCRS TIM says that all tires should match. I'm not REAL sure, but if I recall correctly, all SPARE tires in 1959 were blackwall even when the car was equipped with whitewalls. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Brad, I'm confident all 5 tires, whatever they were, matched. Have never heard the blackwall spare thought before. But, there is a lot of things I've never heard before. Best, Dennis

Thanks Dennis......I was only 10 years old in 1959 when I first helped my father change a tire on our '57 chevy. I THOUGHT it was different from the other tires... But you know, as you get older, what you thought you knew, you really didn't! If you say they're all the same.....then I believe it!

My friend just bought a 55 Chevy having 1,600 mile original. It also has the same original tires on the car WW but the spare tire was black never used.

And the dealer could have put the 4 WW on it before delivery because the buyer wouldn't pay for 5... Come on.

Never seen a "judged" or Survivor solid axle that the five did not match...

I'm not saying any spare was or could be black , just what my friends car had. But early C1's tires had this markings in the tread.
