Can anyone assist me with a place to locate a replacement vacuum advance solenoid for a 1973 454?

Robert what part specifically do you need? The vacuum advance cannister that mounts to the distributor or the solenoid that controls vacuum advance that goes to the vacuum advance cannister?

The part number is DR1997411.

I am looking for the solenoid that sits between the vacuum source (the carb) and the vacuum advance cannister that mounts to the distributor.

It has two vacuum nipples and an electrical plug that actuates the vaccum switch.

I don't know if they still carry them, but M & H Electrical Fabricators (the company that reproduces wiring harnesses for Corvettes and other cars) used to carry an assortment of these solenoids for various Corvette/Chevrolet applications. They are located in southern California and you can reach them at 562-926-9552.

After following this pointer, I ended up at Pacific Corvette who does not have the part. However, they do have the solenoid which is enough for me to rebuild with the housing from my existing part.

If anyone knows where to get the complete assembly I would still like that information.

Joe - how about the vacuum advance assy on the distributor for a 67 L79 non TI car? 1111196 is the dist I believe, I think the can is 236 for the end numbers- any available anywhere or is it swap meet time? .....Craig

Would you be talking about the TCS solenoid that mounts to the base of the coil? This piece has one vacuum line going to the vacuum can on the distributor and the other ties into the vacuum system. I just helped my neighbor install his 454 engine in his 73 and he found a NOS piece from Sal Carbone. Hold your breath when you ask the price though. BTW, I bought a NOS anti-diesel solenoid from Sal myself. He can be contacted at:

Pretty hard to find GM NOS. However, you may be able to obtain a functional replacement from Standard Motor Parts, Filko, or others. Most of these aftermarket units that I've seen are very close to the originals in configuration except for the stamped-in "numbers" and very minor stamping differences.

Robert--

Dr Rebuild has both the TCS solenoid and the idle solenoid for your 73. He also carries the bracket for the idle solenoid. I replaced both pieces on my 72 last year.
