vacuum stem on rear of intake???

i am taking the Edelbrock RPM intake off and putting on an Edelbrock performer intake. On the rear of the intake behind the carb is that vacuum stem with 2 lines coming off of it.The one that was on the old intake was hollow all the way through and the new one i got from Autozone has a copper thing on the inside end of it.Isnt it supposed to be open all the way through so you have vacuum all the time?He said at autozone that you get your vacuum after the motor heats up and the little brass thing moves.....anybody know what i need?

Yup, you need to stop shopping at Bubba-R-Us for car parts. Without knowing what year or generation of car you're taking about it's pretty difficult to guess what fitting you need. I'll take a guess that you've got a C3. If so, you need vacuum full time to operate your headlight doors.

    Best of luck.
