    Carlisle Mini-Report

Well, I spent Friday, Saturday, and much of Sunday at Carlisle. It was, as usual, a GREAT event, and I enjoyed it very much. I didn't really buy anything significant----just a few tools and a few "reference" bolts, but I did look over just about everything there. A HUGE assortment of parts was for sale, as usual also. I saw quite a few of the 73-only coolant recovery tanks for sale. Not a single NOS example did I find, but there were MANY good used ones out there and the prices were very reasonable. So, if one needs such a piece, one should have been at Carlisle.

The best thing of all about Carlisle, though, was the camaraderie, fellowship and just getting together with old friends. The Vetteheads tent was THE place to be. The bash on Friday night was ABSOLUTELY INCOMPARABLE in EVERY WAY. Much thanks to the great bunch of fellow Vetteheads that made it all possible through their untiring dedication. I just can't tell everyone how much I appreciated it. It made me fully appreciate and understand what it means to be a Vettehead, and I don't know that I'll ever be the same again.

Saturday night I was able to get together with my fellow members in the Down River Corvette Club (the club is based in Michigan and I'm the only California member; something that I'm TRULY and SINCERELY proud of. I look forward to that dinner ever year. A finer bunch of guys are not to be found anywhere.

The NCRS display was fantastic, as usual, and it was great to see and speak with many fellow board regulars.

The "King of Cork" was in his usual spot distributing the new reference manual absolutely free of charge. Debbie was charming the customers while the King and I were discussing a whole range of issues that are certain to change the Corvette world for evermore. We were also trying to figure out the largest prime number---- a quest the world's greatest mathematicians for have been working on for ages. The King thinks he has it figured out, but I told him that whatever he's come up with, there's a prime number larger than that one.

Anyway, "my cup runneth over" at Carlisle. And, since I didn't find any parts that I didn't already have and also wanted, I didn't have to spend much money. Plus, since I'm off eBay while I'm away, I'm not spending any money there, either. Who knows, this vacation might end up being a money-saver for me?

Anyway, I'll be here in the northeast "grazing" on lobsters and steamed clams for the next week and I'll be mostly "off-line" except when I get a chance to use someone elses' computer (or, the ones at Kinkos like I'm using now).

    Joe,
Thanks for the report. Although I have wanted to, I have never made it to Carlisle, your report (& others) have made me once again utter the famous Cubs line: "Wait 'til next year (I will go)!" Don H.

I also found it very nice to put some faces to names from various boards. I also received some very good answers to a couple of questions re my `62. I did see a pair of correct seat belt buckles on passenger car belts for $300. They did quite a bit of cleaning up, no tags, and they were a faded red. (I need black) I didn't get them but on the way home, thinking about them I guess I should have.

            Joe -

It was great to have you with us at Carlisle, and your New England heritage was obvious when you attacked those lobsters! Nothing but the best for Vetteheads - doesn't everyone at Carlisle have huge bubbling pots with over 100 pounds of fresh, live Maine lobsters for dinner? The Filet Mignon and Ribeyes the next night weren't too shabby either Good friends, great cars, and fine food - helluva combination!

I arrived on Thursday nite. I got to the fair grounds at 6am on Friday morning. Went to one vendor as he was taking his tarps off his parts. I asked if he had any wheels for my 61. He said he had five but sold them. I didn't understand how he could have sold them when he was just open up. He said he had sold them on Wednesday along with a lot of other parts. I guess you have to be the early bird. Joe DeLuca

I'm surprised that at 6am Friday you found anyone there. I arrived at 7am and 90%+ of the booths were still covered. It took until 9am or later for the place to wake up.

I'm always surprised at how vendors arrive on Wednesday to start selling, but then can't open up by 7am on Friday and Saturday when the really big crowds show up. Are ya there to sell or what???

Maybe those vendors that opened at 9AM spent Wed. & Thur. nights at the Vettehead site?

                    Could be.

Didn't arrive at that site quite so early myself.

They say you never forget your first......

This phrase certainly applies to Corvettes at Carlisle!

I also enjoyed meeting some of the regulars on this board!! I could only "BUZZ" the Vettehead tent 2 or 3 times throughout the day on Saturday (my only day), but these opportunies were a definite highlight. My overall highpoint however was having the chance to shake your hand Joe. Udaman!! I'm glad I've finally met you.

I couldn't believe the ocean of Vette stuff!! You weazels should see the blisters on the bottom of my feet...PAIN? yes, but it's a good kinda pain. The kind that you don't mind because the fun factor over rides the agony.

I also confess I took a look at the "Big Smokie" situation but it took all of 2 seconds to decide that eating something that looked like it just came out of .... well, let just say it wasn't for me. Especially in the August heat.

Truely a fantastic event, Hope to make it again next year!

I was at Carlisle for the first time. All the way from New Orleans, the future
site of NCRS National 2006. What a super Carlisle. My buddy and I had two days
Friday and Saturday to spend, spend, spend. I also spoke to Barry Mcguire.
I'm a 32 year user of his wax products. What a nice man.
We located a 72 junker (we both own 72's) the guys were striping the junker
and we started buying. The only part I still couldn't find was a master
cylinder for my 72 4 speed. LoneStar wanted $450 without a correct core.
                          I couldn't afford that deal.
We had a blast..... Q--What is the Vethead deal that you are talking about.
I plan on returning to Crlisle soon. Big John
Purchases: Dist.cap, front grills, water pump. cig.lighter, fan shroud,
trim screws, heat riser, to name a few.....

About 30 acres full of vettes on the fairgrounds alone not counting all in lots outside. Lyle
