Did C2 conv (66) have luggage rack as an option?

I saw a 66 conv at carlisle with a luggage rack. The owner claimed it was factory installed. Was there a factory option or a dealer installed rack available?

They were never factoty installed. Dealer installed option some time in 1968.

It is my understanding that the original over the counter accessory luggage racks (4 post) were designed to work both on the C2 and C3, plus Corvair. I have a conversation at Carlisle and saw a NOS, what we think that is '69 only,luggage rack. Dealer item only.

Gary,

Joe is absolutely correct. There were no factory installed luggage carriers for that 66 car. There were, however, dealer installed accessory carriers available through the Chevrolet parts department. I have an accessory brochure (somewhere) for the 66 model year and it shows the carrier, along with several other items that were never factory installed, including the clear floor mats, portable spot lamp etc etc.

I put one on my '67 in 1969. It has 6 posts, and 8 rungs. I got it from a dealer in Norfolk, Va and I believe they told me it was for a 68 but it would fit on a 67. The rung spacing was just right for the gas cap lid. It's still on the car.

C1 and C2 had them also, dealer installed. Chevrolet parts and accessories. Tod and Buz had them on the Corvettes they drove on Route 66. Save the Wave

Thanks all. It did look good on the car and rungs were spaced enough the gas door opened without a problem.
I'm thinking about purchasing the car. It needs paint so wether the rack stayed or not was not an issue. I would just close the holes.
Since it looks good and appears that it would be appropriate for the year/model, I think I'll keep it.

Joe, before my 67 convertible was picked up from the dealer on Dec. 14, 1966, a dealer option rack was installed on my car. The rack is a 4 post original and is still on the car in original condition.
