Dear Members,
My original, bright blue pads are cracked. Can they be re-skinned with material? How about that 'Just Dashes' shop that does this with vacuum sealing? I'm wondering if the new repro dashes will fit as well as the old ones. Maybe a vender has the original tooling? Thanks much!
Justin,
Al Knoch sells the skins and the complete pads. I had mine reskinned nut if I were to do it again I would get new pads. If you go to Just Dashes, bring your wallet.
justin, besides bringing your wallet to Just Dashes i don't think you'll be happy. i sent dash pads to them about 4 years ago. i was assured they would be reskinned as original.they weren't they were significantly thicker, and the grain was somewhat different then original.when i called them, i got the usual run around.
My 66 with bright blue interior had a set of reskinned dash pads when I bought it. They never looked completely right and there was some sagging on the curves on the underside. When i took the dash apart two years ago to clean everything up and replace the firewall pad and wiring harness I bought new pads from Mid America and they looked and fit very well. I'd never waste the money on re-skins after seeing how nice the new ones look.
Justin - I agree with others on this, get replacements. Al Knoch has a good reputation. One of the comments I have heard in classes on interiors at Bloomington was the contour of the repros is slightly different and less rounded on the edge facing the driver and passenger, but like with everything, original is always best. But when the condition is an issue, you have little choice....Craig
