oil blow by ed mcgee ok after years of owning mid year cars i succumbed to the lure of the solid axle mystique and bought a ' at carlisle this year the car ran great during the test drive and continues to do so great acceleration no smoke but what i didn't notice when i first drove the car lesson always lift the hood and observe the engine when it is running is that there is a tremendous amount of oil vapor escaping through the oil fill tube not the road draft tube my mechanic friend says the car needs a ring job but the darn thing is running great do i really need rings oh yeah the car only has about miles on it so it has obviously done a lot of sitting over the years as near as i can figure the car has had about miles put on it over the last years should i pull the engine now or what oil consumption is very heavy about quart in miles

re oil blow by carl rose dear mr mcgee it has been my experience that engines that have excessive oil blow by usualyl are in need of rebuild the heavy oil consumption also correlates i would reccomend that you compression test the cylinders as i remember they should be lbs variation probably it is only a question of rebuilding the motor now or later and i'm sure you already know this machine shop no decking the block or stamping rebuild code hardened valve seats and forged pistons probably a good idea no time like now to get the correct if it doesn't have water pump casting correct bolts etc i'm not sure this is what you really want to hear carl p s one of my friends just purchased a i have a but gosh darn that is so cute
