    1965 Radio

I am trying to replace in my 1965 corvette a correct radio for the year. I have been told that there is a difference between the 1965 year and the 1966/67 years. Is this correct? I know there was a difference between the 1963/64 years.
Can someone please help with this issue? Thanks.

    Regards,

Yes there is a difference in the way the AM and FM indicators are lit. I believe that 64-5 are the same as each other and 66-67 are the same. I would have to check the JG for the exact difference.

      Gary,

I think 65 through 67 are the same. Same model number 986281. The attached is a page from Sams Phototrace which says - model 986281 (1965 Corvette). This is the same model number as the radio on my 67. You can get the service manual and circuit diagram from www.justradios.com for about $5.

        Re: 1965 Radio

Now if you really want to go crazy, there is another path to follow. I can show this by example. Each AM/FM radio has it's own unique serial number. It is printed on a small paper tag attached to the radio. I believe the first AM/FM radio for 1963 was serial 86FMA-0001. This radio was installed in approximate car 11768. I also believe when it reached , 9999, the next numbers started at 86FMB-0001, then FMC, etc, etc.

This sequence continues, as I understand, through 1967. If you know the serial number of your car (VIN Sequence) and you can determine the first radio serial number for 1965, you can get real close in matching numbers.

I do understand that somewhere along the line the first two numbers may have been changed to 81.

Just thought I'd add more complexity to the solution.

          Re: 1965 Radio

Take a look in the archives for this past June in regard to 64-67 radios.
From the thread there, I understand that the Part Number for the radio was the same for 65 through 67, and different in 64
