    Hurrican Frances and Florida

It looks like Florida will get hit again. I hope everyone has their Corvettes safe.

And more importantly, I hope all in the path of this one are getting out.

    Hello,

I too hope all get out of the way... Here's a link to the National Hurricane Center to keep an eye on it...

    Good luck all.

      Mike,

Here we go again, just three weeks after hurricane Charley went through. Looks like it's headed straight for us. I guess we'll know for sure by Friday AM.

Yes, the only thing I have going for me is it will cross about 100 miles of land until it crosses my house. But it all depends on where it hits landfall and with what speed as to whether or not we will leave or not. The downside is there isn't any where to run. If it shoots up the state NW, then there isn't enough room to run SW to get away and going NW will just chase us into Georgia.

At least I got the in-laws out of Port St. Lucie this time. The last one that headed their way, they wouldn't leave.

I was caught by one on the open road once, in Georgia about 19 years ago. It left a big impression.

At least the odds are better of it not going to Tampa this time for you than last time.

The latest report looks like Melbourne to Orlando over to Ocala is the path. I feel for you people ,I live 15-20 miles south of where Charley came in at and the devistation up around Punta Gorda, Arcadia ,Wachula and even some points north is unbelievable. You would have to see it to believe it. How there weren't more deaths I will never know. Good luck to all!

My thoughts and prayers are for everybody in the path of Francis. Before '96 I would not have believed a hurricane could reap that much devistation. But having survived Fran in '96 and Floyd in '99, I now know first hand what they can do. Lost over 1000 trees in Fran (over four acres), 42 across the driveway, 8 on the house and garage. Cost me over $45,000 out-of-pocket as most insurance companies only cover up to $500 for damage to your property. Was elated after Floyd, only lost 10 trees! And 90% of those lost in both storms were 60 to 70 ft tall red and white oaks. Was without power for eight days with Fran. Johnston County NC was poorly prepared for the diaster, so most of use were left to our own devices to pick up and begin putting things back together again. That stage was worse than the hurricane. For months after Fran, I thought the "Sound of North Carolina" was that of a chain saw.
