On my '68 300 hp Auto with power steering, pulley arrangement, which was missing the A.I.R. stuff. I was referring to the assembly manual with regards to the correct pulley for the water pump. When installing the various belts and having all installed except for the A.I.R. belt, I realized that I did not have anywhere to put it. The water pump pulley on this engine (#3900434)is only two grooved, I would need three grooves to drive the A.I.R. pump. Now the assembly manual shows a 2 groove pulley #3890419 with a supplemented single pulley #3883235 in front of the two groove pulley. Thus having three grooves. Now the question is the 2 + 1 arrangement correct or something else. I checked my older GM Corvette parts book and found that for a '68 327 w/power steering and A.I.R. the number 3900434. If someone has this arrangement, what are the pulleys numbers?
Water Pump/A.I.R. Pulley?

Re: Water Pump/A.I.R. Pulley?
Dennis,
I can't provide you with any part numbers, but I think the 2+1 arrangement is correct. If you search the Archives (link at top) and enter the 7 digit part number, you will find a wealth of information on the correct application for each. Look specifically for posts by Joe Lucia. Hope this helps.- Top

Re: Water Pump/A.I.R. Pulley?
Dennis------
ALL 1968 Corvette small blocks used a"sandwiched" pulley arrangement on the waterpump. The rear pulley was a 2 groove pulley and the forward pulley was a 1 groove pulley. The 3883235 is the correct pulley for the front, single groove AIR drive pulley. As I recall, the rear, 2 groove pulley was GM #3890419 as you have found in the literature. It's possible, though, that the 3900434 was an alternate. I'll have to check later; my reference library is 3000 miles away.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
