    60 Speedometer and tachometer cable

My 60 has a black rubber coated Speedometer and tachometer cable, which I was sure there were original. The Judging Guide says, the speedometer cable is spiral steel and it does not mention the tack cable. Is spiral steel right on the speedometer cable? and what is the Tachometer cable finish? I can not find a spiral steel cable for either.

    YES

It's spriral steel. Black vinyl in 1961 and gray vinyl in 1962. The tach cable in 1960 was black yinyl as I recall. (carbureted Vettes)

      Re: YES

Thanks Dale, Do you know any one that has a spiral steel Cable for the 60? I was sure the black was the original on this mid year 60. But if the NCRS want spiral steel, spiral steel is what they get.

        NCRS Want's Your $

Don't forget, NCRS is a business! And it has to be run like a business. An alleged NON-Profit business. Which it is mostly. For almost all of us.

The NCRS doesn't want your cable to be anything that you don't want your cable to be. If you want your cable to be black vinyl then I also want your cable to be black vinyl. I like to see people happy.

Unfortunately, if I judge your car you flunk! Because original cables appeared to be steel encased. But that's because NCRS wants me to apply the judging standard.

What happens when you take a pocket knife and peel away the black vinyl on a reproduction cable? I really don't know but I think a steel encasement appears. I'm not knowing that these steel cables have been a problem to come by. Let us know.

        Dale.

          Re: Possible Steel cable sources

I do not even know what the steel cable looked like since mine also had vinyl. I also don't know if they are available in Vette catalogs. However, I have seen them in motorcycle catalogs in various lengths and fittings to fit the antique Harley's and Indians. So if all other sources fail.......

Corvette Central has all three types for both applications - don't know which is correct, but they have black, gray, and steel.

              Re: NCRS Want's Your $

Dale, All the vendors I checked with only had vinyl, no spiral steel. I took a pocket knife and peeled away the black vinyl and now I have a new spiral steel cable. Thanks
