I finally got time to monkey with my car again. After reading over all the helpful suggestions last week I decided the best thing to do would be set total advance. Since I do not have a dial back timing light, I degreed my balancer, shooting for 34 degrees total advance. It seemed all the timing was in it by 2500 rpm. I then adjusted the mixture for the highest vacuum at idle 13-14 inches. I got it to the point that the idle screw is just barely touching the throttle stop. Since I have adjusted it this way it no longer runs-on, as of yet. Just the same I am always ready to let the clutch out a bit just in case. It is now starting, idling, and running stronger than ever (scary fast). It seems to be staying an ok temperature (steady 210) so far and it is 90 here today. Thank you to everyone who has helped me figure out how to get my engine tuned right.
