    66 L79 valve adjustment

My 66 L79 has around 5000 miles on it since the PO rebuilt it. According to him, it had about 1000 on it when I bought it. I did the valves a few weeks ago accoring to the service manual and things are fine and quiet...BUT while I was at it I noticed one of the adjustment nuts was cranked down so far I could not get a normal socket on it. I decided to leave that one alone. It was ticking slightly, so I assume it was not over tight.

What does this mean? Flat lobe on the cam? collapsed lifter? Is there anything easy to do to determine what's up?

    Thanks

Sorry Clem...it's a 1966 327 CI 350 HP. Thanks, I'll look at that. If that's the case, is the fix easy or hard? I've read cautions about this before here, but all I recall is it's not good.

And I thought I was being a "cool vette guy" by using the "L" numbers.

lay a staightedge across the top of the studs and see if it is higher than the rest of the studs. it can be tapped back down into the head BUT it will not stay. the best fix is to ream the hole oversize and use a oversize stud. do not try to install the over size stud without reaming the hole larger as you can crack the stud boss.you can also use a screw in stud with out the hex if you tap the orignal stud hole. pioneer make a "hexless" stud
