    A-6 Compressor Source

Where is the best place to get a new or rebuilt A-6 compressor with the ceramic front seal and ester oil? This is to go in my 70. Thanks.

Bob = the only place I know of to get the ceramic seal is from GM and I don't know if their rebuilds include that seal. Someone posted that old air or vintage air will rebuild with that seal too....Craig

I don't know if Advance Auto sells the AC Delco rebuilt A-6 compressor. Advance Auto does sell AC Delco rebuilt alternators. Might check with them concerning the A-6 compressor or another parts dealer that handles AC Delco parts. The Last Detail parts place may have what you want.

The Last Detail has one at $375. While expensive, that's about $100 less than some other places.

FWIW, I recently purchased a brand new one on eBay for less than half of that.

Patrick - I bought a NOS 69 service date unit on eBay last year.....about the same price you quote. However, the newer ceramic seal was not out then, so I plan to install that instead of the currently installed carbon filter before I use it......Craig

What year did the ceramic seal come into being?
            I believe I have a 1980 dated unit.

Patrick - that may be close......I am not exactly sure when the seal came into existence, I guess we need Joe to give us those details Craig
